What this does

A bridge between Telegram and your browser

Telegram keeps files on its own servers and normally hands them only to the Telegram client. That is fine until you want a 3 GB course archive on a machine where you are not signed in, or you want to give a file to a download manager instead of watching the app's built-in transfer crawl along.

This tool asks Telegram for the media attached to one specific public post and returns the underlying file as an ordinary HTTP link. After that, nothing unusual is happening: it is a URL, and anything that downloads URLs can download it. The file streams straight from Telegram's infrastructure to you. We keep no copy.

Generated links stop working after 24 hours. That is deliberate: it keeps links from being harvested and passed around long after whoever made them has moved on. Paste the original post link again whenever you need a fresh one.

Three steps

How to download a video or file from Telegram

  1. Copy the link to the post, not the channel

    This is where nearly every failed attempt starts, so it is worth being precise.

    On Android or iPhone: press and hold the message containing the file, then choose Copy Link.

    On Telegram Desktop or Web: right-click the message and choose Copy Post Link.

    What you want ends in a number, like https://t.me/durov/537. If your clipboard holds something like https://t.me/durov with no number, you copied the channel rather than the post, and the tool has no way to know which file you meant.

  2. Paste it above and press Get link

    Use the Paste button if your browser allows clipboard access, or paste manually. Processing usually takes a few seconds; large files take longer because the file has to be located before a link can be issued.

  3. Download in the browser, or hand the URL to a download manager

    Download file starts the transfer in your browser right away. Copy link puts the raw URL on your clipboard so you can paste it into IDM, FDM, JDownloader, aria2 or whatever you normally use.

    For anything over a few hundred megabytes, the download manager route is worth the extra ten seconds, see below.

If Telegram accepted the upload, you can retrieve it. That covers every common format the app handles — video, audio, images, documents, archives and everything it treats as a generic file — with one deliberate exception: APK installers are declined, for the security reasons explained further down.

On size: Telegram allows up to 2 GB per file on standard accounts and 4 GB on Premium. We add no limit of our own. What tends to fail on very large files is the connection rather than the link, which is what download managers are for.

Quality and playback

What you get, and how to open it

You receive the original file, unchanged, no re-encoding, no watermark, no resizing. That is worth stating plainly, because many downloader services run files through their own encoder to save bandwidth or stamp a logo, and that always costs quality. Below are the three things people most often ask about once the file is on their machine.

Why does my Telegram video look blurry?

This is the single most common complaint, and the cause is almost never the downloader. It is how the video was sent.

If a video looks soft after downloading, it was compressed by Telegram before it ever reached the channel. Detail discarded at upload time cannot be recovered by us or by anyone, and any tool claiming to deliver a higher resolution than was uploaded is either lying or running an upscaler that invents detail. The only real fix is on the uploader's side: attach the video as a file rather than as a video.

A quick way to tell which you are dealing with: if the post shows a play button and streams inline, it was sent as video. If it shows a document row with a filename and a size, it was sent as a file and is at full quality.

The file downloaded but will not play

Almost always a container your player does not understand, not a corrupt file. Telegram carries plenty of formats that Windows and macOS do not open by default:

MKV deserves a special mention because it is a container, not a codec: one MKV can hold several audio tracks and several subtitle tracks in a single file. That is why film channels prefer it, and why VLC is the practical answer for playing it.

Voice messages and the Opus problem

When someone holds the microphone button in Telegram, the app records in Opus, wrapped in an OGG container. Opus is genuinely excellent: better quality per kilobyte than MP3 at speech bitrates, which is exactly why Telegram chose it. The problem is support outside the app.

  • Plays out of the box: VLC, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, most Android players, Audacity.
  • Usually does not: Windows Media Player, older iTunes, many car stereos, some older Bluetooth speakers.

If the file downloads but stays silent, the file is fine; your player simply does not speak Opus. Install VLC, or convert it to MP3 if you need it on a device where you cannot install software.

A note on converting: Opus to MP3 is a lossy step. It will never sound better than the original, and usually sounds very slightly worse. For speech this is inaudible, so convert without hesitation. For music it is worth avoiding, though music is rarely sent as a voice message anyway.

Where the subtitles are

This depends on how the uploader packaged them, and it changes what you need to fetch:

  • Burned into the picture, always visible, cannot be switched off. Nothing extra to download.
  • Embedded in an MKV, switchable in VLC under Subtitle → Sub Track. They travel with the video file automatically.
  • Posted as a separate SRT or ASS file, usually the message immediately before or after the video. Download it separately, put it in the same folder with the same filename as the video, and most players will find it on their own.

Music files, tags and albums

Music posted as an audio file carries ID3 tags, title, artist, album, year, often embedded cover art. Those tags live inside the file, so they survive the download intact and any music library will file the track correctly on import.

One thing that confuses people: Telegram often shows the tagged title in the chat while the underlying filename is something like audio_2024-03-11.mp3. Your player reads the tags, not the filename, so this rarely matters, but it looks odd in the folder.

Albums are normally posted as a series of separate messages, one track each, and every message has its own number. That means one link per track. The quickest route through a twelve-track album is to generate all twelve download links and paste them into a download manager as a batch, rather than downloading one at a time in the browser.

Troubleshooting

Why isn't my link working?

Almost every failure falls into one of the cases below. Each explains what actually happened and whether anything can be done about it, including the cases where the honest answer is no.

“Invalid link format” the URL has no post number

The tool needs a link pointing at one specific message. t.me/channelname/12345 works. t.me/channelname does not, because a channel can hold thousands of files and nothing in that URL says which one you want.

Invite links such as t.me/+AbCdEf123 and t.me/joinchat/… also fail, those point at an invitation, not at a file.

Fix: open the post itself, then use Copy Link on that individual message.

The link starts with t.me/c/ private channel or group

A t.me/c/ link followed by a long numeric ID is Telegram's format for private content. Those files are readable only by an account already admitted to the channel or group.

This tool holds no Telegram account and belongs to no channels, so from its position that file simply does not exist. This is not a limitation we can engineer around, it is how Telegram's access control is meant to work, and bypassing it would mean compromising someone's private group.

What to do instead: open the file inside the Telegram app while signed in to an account that has access. On Telegram Desktop you can then right-click and choose Save As.

A public t.me link works with a downloader, a private t.me/c/ link does not
“Forwarding is restricted” content protection is on

Telegram gives channel owners a switch called Restrict Saving Content. When it is on, forwarding, copying and saving are blocked for everyone outside the channel, and Telegram refuses to release the file to any third party at all.

If you see this, the owner has deliberately locked the content down. There is no workaround here and we would not build one, the restriction is theirs to make.

“Message not found” deleted, renumbered or renamed

Post numbers are permanent, so this normally means the post was deleted after the link was shared. It also happens when a channel is migrated to a supergroup, which renumbers older messages, and when a channel changes its public username, old links pointing at the previous name stop resolving.

Fix: go back to the channel and copy the link fresh from the post as it exists now.

“The message has no media” nothing attached to download

The post exists but carries only text, a poll, a sticker, or a link preview. Link previews are especially misleading: the thumbnail belongs to an external website, not to a file stored on Telegram, so there is nothing here to retrieve.

If a post contains several files as an album, each has its own message number. Copy the link from the specific item you want.

“File type not supported” APK files are declined

Android install packages are refused on purpose. Sideloaded APKs passed around on Telegram are one of the most reliable ways to end up with malware on a phone, and we have no way to inspect what a given package actually does.

Rather than act as a delivery route for unsigned apps, we decline them. Every other file type Telegram supports goes through normally.

“Access denied. IP is blocked” rate limiting kicked in

The service is free and runs on finite bandwidth, so automated bulk requests get throttled. The message tells you when the block lifts.

If you hit this without doing anything unusual, you are most likely on a shared or carrier-grade NAT address, common on mobile networks and VPNs, where someone else's traffic counts against the same IP. Switching from mobile data to Wi-Fi, or turning a VPN off, usually clears it.

“The server is busy” retries exhausted

Telegram did not answer in time after several attempts. This is usually temporary load on their side rather than a problem with your link. Wait a minute and try the same link again.

The button on this page enforces a short cooldown between requests for exactly this reason, hammering it makes the queue longer for everyone, including you.

It worked yesterday but not today 24-hour expiry

Download links are valid for 24 hours from the moment they are generated. This is intentional. Paste the original t.me post link again and a new link is issued immediately.

The file downloaded but will not open wrong player, not a broken file

A download that finishes and then refuses to play is almost never corrupt. It is a container your player does not understand. MKV on Windows, Opus voice messages in Windows Media Player, HEVC video on an older phone.

Fix: install VLC. It is free on every platform and opens essentially everything Telegram carries without extra codecs. The quality and playback section above lists which formats need it.

The download stops partway through connection, not the link

Your browser pulls a file over a single connection. If that connection drops at 80%, the browser usually starts again from zero rather than resuming.

Fix: for anything over roughly 500 MB, use Copy link instead of Download and paste the URL into a download manager. IDM, Free Download Manager, JDownloader and aria2 all split the transfer across several parallel connections and resume after an interruption.

If it stops at exactly the same point every time, that is different, the post may have been deleted mid-download, or the 24-hour link expiry may have been reached. Generate a fresh link and try again.

Large files

Using the link with a download manager

A browser downloads a large file over a single connection, and if that connection drops at 89% you generally start over. A download manager opens several connections at once and can resume. Since what we hand you is an ordinary HTTP URL, every download manager understands it.

  1. Choose Copy link instead of Download file

    This puts the raw URL on your clipboard rather than starting a browser download.

  2. Add it as a new download

    In IDM, use Tasks → Add New Download and paste. In Free Download Manager or JDownloader, copying the URL is usually enough, both watch the clipboard and offer to take it. With aria2, pass it straight on the command line.

  3. Start it within the 24-hour window

    The link expires 24 hours after it is created. A download already running will finish, but a queued task that has not started by then will fail. For long queues, generate the link close to when you actually intend to download.

If your download manager reports 403 or 404: the link has almost certainly expired. Paste the original Telegram post link here again to issue a new one. Check you copied the whole URL, too, long links are easy to truncate.

Privacy

What we do and don't do with your data

Downloader sites have earned a poor reputation, much of it deserved. So rather than a badge saying “100% safe”, here is the actual behaviour:

  • We never ask for your Telegram account. No phone number, no login code, no password, no session. There is no field to enter one, because the tool never needs one, it only reads content that is already public.
  • Files are not stored on our servers. The file streams from Telegram's infrastructure to you. We hold the metadata needed to build a link and nothing more.
  • Links expire after 24 hours, so a link that leaks stops being useful quickly.
  • We keep aggregate request counts only, enough to catch abuse and size the servers. There is no per-user download history, because there are no user accounts to attach one to.
  • Analytics are limited to page traffic. Google Analytics measures visits to this site. It does not receive the Telegram links you paste.

What we cannot do is vouch for the files themselves. We are a transport layer; the content belongs to whoever posted it. Scan anything executable before you open it, and check you have the right to download a given file, copyright applies on Telegram exactly as it does everywhere else. FAQ

Common questions

Is it really free?

Yes, with no quota, no watermark and no paid tier. Running costs are covered by advertising on this page and by occasional donations. There is no plan to gate the tool behind a payment.

Does the channel owner see that I downloaded something?

No. Telegram does not report per-file downloads to channel owners, and since we never sign in as anyone, there is no account of yours involved for anything to be attributed to.

Does this work on iPhone?

Yes. It runs in Safari like any other web page. iOS saves downloads to the Files app rather than the Photos library, for a video you want in your camera roll, open it in Files afterwards and use Save to Photos.

Can I download a whole channel at once?

Not through this page; it handles one post at a time. Bulk archiving is what desktop tools and the official Telegram Desktop export function are built for.

Is the video quality reduced?

No. You receive the same file that was uploaded, unchanged. If a video looks soft, it was compressed before it ever reached Telegram, sending video as a file rather than as a video avoids that.

Is downloading from Telegram legal?

Accessing public content is generally fine. What you do with copyrighted material afterwards is a different question, and the answer depends on the content and on where you live. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice, if a file is not yours to redistribute, do not redistribute it.

Is there a browser extension?

Yes, for Firefox and Chrome, adding a download button directly inside Telegram Web. See the extension page.

Which file types are supported?

Every common format Telegram itself accepts: video (MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI, WEBM), audio (MP3, M4A, FLAC, WAV, OGG), images, documents, archives, subtitles and anything else stored as a generic file. The single exception is APK installers, which we decline for security reasons.

Can I choose the video quality?

No, and neither can anyone else. Unlike YouTube, Telegram stores exactly one version of each video, so there is no quality menu to offer. You receive the file as it was uploaded.

Why will my downloaded voice message not play?

Telegram records voice messages using the Opus codec in an OGG container. VLC, Chrome and most Android players handle it, but Windows Media Player and many car stereos do not. The file is fine, install VLC, or convert it to MP3. See quality and playback.

Does the download keep the song title and artist?

Yes. ID3 tags are stored inside the file itself, so title, artist, album and embedded cover art all come through untouched. The filename may still look generic, your player reads the tags, not the name.

How do I download a whole album?

One track at a time, because each track is a separate Telegram message with its own link. Generate all the download links first, then paste them into a download manager as a batch instead of fetching them one by one in the browser.

Built and maintained by a two-person team

This site started in 2024 out of a plain annoyance: pulling a large file out of a public Telegram channel onto a desktop machine took far longer than it should have, and none of the existing options were pleasant. We built the bridge for ourselves first, then opened it up.

It has run continuously since, handling millions of requests. We answer email, and the error messages on this page are written from failures we have actually watched happen, not from guesses. If something breaks, tell us; that is how most of this troubleshooting section got written.
